"Its not how big we do, its what we do that defines us"
Peace be upon you all. 'Covid' this has become the most used word in recent times, wherever we go, we can hear it. The whole world is affected by this microscopic virus directly or indirectly. Many rumours are being circulated about the virus and its vaccine. A lot of healthcare and sanitary workers are battling the virus. The war between humanity and the virus has just began. Lockdowns, unemployment, financial crisis and health issues have become very common. The most affected people are the poor who have lost their jobs, cannot pay their rents nor afford for healthy food. Elections have made things worse and campaigns have proved to be corona-hotspots.
Short But Large
It was 28th April, 2021 we had to do something. We planned to distribute food kits as they are the most essential for the poor as of the current crisis. Due to election results and a chance for a complete lockdown, we planned to do it early, a day before the results, 1st May. It was just 3 days time, we had hope that we would collect enough because it was the month of mercy and charity, Ramadan. All praise and thanks to the God, we collected more than what we expected. Thank you everyone, all those who donated, supported and motivated us. Now coming to the term short but large, hope you already figured it out. This project was done in a very short span of time but it is the largest project of UHC until now.
Food Kit
Now coming to the contents of each food kit.
- 3 Kgs of Rice
- 1 Kg of Wheat Flour
- 1 Kg of Rava
- 1 Kg of Toor Dal
- 1 Kg of Urad Dal
- 1 Kg of Sugar
- 1 Kg of Salt
- A packet of Semiya
For 20 poor families, a total of 180 Kgs of food material. We also took care of the quality and bought only good quality materials as we buy for our own use.
The Final Step
Everything was good. It went as we planned. We took proper precautions for covid before going out. We were careful neither to get infected nor to infect others.
The big day came. It was a sunny day with some clouds to shade. We ordered the food materials a day before. We got it delivered to our friend's home near our project location, E-Pudur. Then we spent sometime packing and preparing the kits. It was a good experience filled with happiness and joy. May be this is what is called the joy of helping others.
After packing, we loaded it into sacks. We carried it along the streets and went to each poor household and distributed the food kits. The children in the houses were happy, the joy and relief on their faces were worth our efforts. Many told us that they were in real crisis and we were the answers to their prayers. We once again thank everyone who donated and supported for this wonderful cause. Keep supporting.
